September means the start of classes at Sheridan College. On Tuesdays I have back-to-back Anthropometrics and Ergonomic design classes to teach in the full time program. They seem like a great bunch so far, a little overwhelmed to have a lecture on their first day, but we only have 14 weeks together and there is so much to teach them.
Today’s focus was on the history of anthropometrics( the measurement of humans) and how it applies to the built environment. Some great discussions today around clothing as well as public transportation. This class should help to open their eyes about how we must design for the “end user” also known as the client.
We can all relate to being in a poorly designed space, or having a sofa that doesn’t “fit” our body shape and size.
Looking forward to a great semester.
